lyrics

Dom is how home sounds in the language of my childhood,

language of my heart.

My child self never lived by the sea. But I still remember

her surprised joy at salty water,

tang of salt in the air, grey Baltic sea rolling up to meet her

delighted feet. Even then I’d known,

the sea will always carry me home.

Something in me can’t help but respond to it,

the salt, the sand, and above all

the sound. The sound of sea and silence, torn by

irreverent bird cries. The white squares ahead, the quiet, rainy

touristless mornings. The fishermen,

and I don’t normally like fish, but trust me -

better fish happen by the sea.

The grain of sand between my toes

the rolling of the waves and me, rolling around

an apple-cheeked seal, making unholy noises.

Scaring the birds.

The sea will always carry me home,

And I carry the sea inside me.

Grains of sand reside underneath my eyelids

and make themselves known, as does salty water.

The sound of sea inside me, waves rolling,

Is always in my ears. The cry of birds. The sea will always

Carry me home. Do domu. Chodz do domu.

And I always will carry it in me.

Here I am a bucket of salty water

A sand castle, a little bit of wind

Thrown in, about to crumble

To be washed away into the sea, the sky,

The open space beneath my heart. This is

Me, at sea.

I’m at sea.
